Eric and I went downtown this afternoon for the 4th celebrations in Baker Park. I haven't been there since I was a lot younger, like middle school, so I was curious how it would be. It was a lot of fun! There were bath tub races, music of all kinds (we hung out by the country stage), chili cook offs, beer gardens, and food vendors. Oh, the food vendors. They had the best food ever. And not only was it the best, but they had EVERYTHING! from burgers and fries, to thai food and funnel cakes! I was tempted to get the foot long hot dog, but I wussed out (and secretly hoped that Eric would get it instead so that I could steal bites) and got a regular hot dog. The hot dogs were phenomenal. I'm not a HUGE hot dog lover, but these were up there with baseball game hot dogs. Pretty good. The fries were good too, like boardwalk fries. Eric really wanted thai iced tea (so good) so he waited in line at the thai food vendor. At the last minute he decided to go ahead and get Pad Thai. He soon realized that this was probably a bad idea, considering it was 95 degrees outside. Anyway, we set up our JMU blanket and chairs and sat down by the country music stage and just waited. And waited. And waited. Did I mention that it was 95 degrees outside? The clock hit about 4:00 and we decided that it was WAY too hot to sit out there for 5 more hours to wait for fireworks. So we packed up, and headed back to the car and drove home. We might head back later tonight for the fireworks, since we can't really see them from our house. We will see! Hopefully I will have a firework post later!

Eric did the Marine Chin-up challenge... he won a key-chain. Maybe next year he will get the teeshirt!
